Media assessment learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full - WWW & EBI. You do not have to write your mark and grade if you don't want to.

WWW: Strong effort throughout this assessment. It is clear you know the csp's and conventions for advertising and magazines.

EBI: Constantly apply theories in your analysis e.g Young & Rubicam Psychographic profiling.

2) Look at Question 3 in the assessment - the media analysis of the Under Armour advert.

C - Costume: The player is wearing red and black rugby kit which has connotations of the red shirt reflects the rugby players facial expressions of anger and the black has connotations of the darkness and danger yet to come.

L - Lighting: The stadium floodlights emphasises the star power and his importance & that he's the central image.

A - Actor placement and movement: The rugby player is positioned in between the flood lit logos to link his effort with the brand image but also to isolate him and connotes personal struggle /strength.The player's face suggests anger and exhaustion.

M - Make up: The player's face is shining under the lights which makes it look like the player is sweating from pushing the big tire and also emphasises his exhaustion.

P - Props: The tyre is significant because it has stereotypical connotations as men are meant to be interested in cars therefore using a tire in an advert may show this advert is for men.

S - Setting: the stadium setting suggests to the audience that this is a sports advert.

3) Look at Question 4. What is Todorov's theory of equilibrium? How does it link to the Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert?

Todorov's theory of equilibrium is that in every narrative there is a new equlibrium, disequilibrium and equilibrium. In Audrey's Hepburn Galaxy advert the equlibrium is shown when Audrey is getting on the bus and taking out her Galaxy chocolate bar. The disequlibrium is shown when the fruit stall was knocked over and spread out all across the road, not allowing the bus (which Audrey is on) carry on driving. The new equilibrium is shown when a chaffeur drives next to the bus picking Audrey up from the chaos and driving her away.

4) What social class is Reveal aimed at? (Extension - what do the cover lines on Reveal suggest about what working class people are interested in?)

Reveal is aimed at a working class who seem to be interested in celebrity lifestyle and gossip.

5) Pick three cover lines from Tatler that reflect upper class British culture and society. Explain what they suggest about the lifestyle and beliefs of upper class British people.

"The one month gap year" - Targeted more to Tatler's younger audience who are in university thinking of travel, yet still aimed at upper/wealthy classes who have disposable income to travel.

"Most invited 2017" - appeals to socialites who spend most of their time attending posh parties/events. Interested who's at the higher tier list due to representation of upper classes.
