Audience Effects Theory

  1) Write a definition of a  passive  audience:  This is the view that audiences take in information from the media that has the same effect on everyone. 2)  Write a definition of an  active  audience:  This is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with the media they consume. 3) Write a definition of the  hypodermic needle  theory:  This the suggestion that audiences are always passive and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds.This assumes no individual difference in audience members. The preferred reading of a media text is how the producers want the audience to view the media text. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? The oppositional reading of a media text is when the audience rejects the preferred reading, and creates their own meaning for the media text. 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film? The Harry Brown trailer positions the audience to responding to the teenagers as violent, aggressive and belligerent. 4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer? October assessment learner response

  1)  WWW:  -Knowledge and understanding of media terminology (e.g. consumer and target audience)  - Good ability to describe conventions of a film poster. EBI: -Revise denotation further. -Develop of camera shot types and consider why producers use them. 2) 1) 0- i got myself mistaken with denotation and connotation. 2) 1 3) 2 4) 2 5) 1- I didn't focus on the font type and colour of the title. 6) 3 7) 2  8) 2- I didn't write about other mise-en-scene things ( costumes,colour,eye contact)  9) 3- I didn't include how they use controversial or emotive images also how it's targeted at older audiences. 3) I didn't get any media terminology wrong in the assessment. 4) I think my strong question was question 6 as i understood what it meant by the conventions and also how i can identify the conventions of a film poster. 5) I think my weaker question was question 9 as i didn't include things in my writing such as to who the advert might me directed at and also the stere
