 1) What is independent cinema and how is it different to Hollywood blockbusters?

Independent films are films made outside of the conventional studio system, outside of Hollywood or any other large production studio and are a lot different to Hollywood blockbusters like Doctor Strange. "Indie" films are different as the directors and producers have more creative input and it's being made in their vision, not in the vision of the studio bosses.

2) What is I, Daniel Blake about?

I,Daniel Blake is about how Daniel stands up and fights for his dignity, leading a one-man crusade for compassion that will transform the lives of a struggling single mother and her two children. It is a drama that has a strong political message about Britain in an age of goverment austerity.

3) Who directed I, Daniel Blake and why is this important?

Ken Loach directed I, Daniel Blake. This is important because Ken Loach is a very creative and well-known director therefore has director power and also because his films consist of working class people and brings awareness to topics such as unemployment, addiction and poverty.

4) How was I, Daniel Blake promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign and how they targeted their audience.

-The film paired up with Trinity Mirror to run a marketing campagin based on the film.

-The film also paired up with Nomadix Medias' iprojector to create an outdoor campaign using quotes from the film.

-Ken Loach appeared on BBC question time to talk on the issue giving the film extra credibility.

 
5) What unusual or creative marketing methods were used to get audiences talking about the film?

-Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn attended the London premiere and people that had been denied benefit payments were asked to placard the event.

-Organise free (pay what you can) screenings and talks in community centers across the UK.

-A video was released using members of the public and politicians that supported the film's message.

6) What was the estimated production budget for I, Daniel Blake and how much did it make at the box office?

I, Daniel Blake cost around £2 million to make and it made around £11 million at the Box Office.

7) How can independent films like I, Daniel Blake compete with Hollywood blockbusters like Doctor Strange?
 
 

Independent films are very different to Hollywood blockbusters like Doctor Strange. "Indie" films have more creative input, smaller budgets and are supported financially by public service broadcasters, film institutions or charity funding as the film is being made in the directors' vision not in the vision of a Hollywood or any other large production studio.

8) In your opinion, was I, Daniel Blake a success?

In my opinion, I think I, Daniel Blake was partly a success because it did make a lot of money and helped people spread a message however compared to the Hollywood Blockbuster Doctor Strange it seems like Doctor Strange was more successful as it made a lot more money.
